Google has officially ended support for FAQ rich results in Google Search, marking the final phase of a feature that once helped websites gain additional visibility in search results.
The change was confirmed through an update published on Google Search Central documentation on 12 June 2026. Google said the FAQ rich result feature is “no longer shown in Google Search results” and has begun removing related reporting and testing tools.
FAQ rich results, which displayed expandable questions and answers directly in search listings, stopped appearing in Google Search on 7 May 2026. Google is now removing the FAQ search appearance filter, the rich result report in Search Console and support in the Rich Results Test. Support for FAQ data in the Search Console API will end in August 2026.
What are FAQ rich results?
FAQ rich results were a Google Search enhancement that allowed publishers to add structured data to webpages and display question-and-answer sections directly in search results. The feature became widely used by publishers, e-commerce sites and marketers to improve visibility and click-through rates.
Google first reduced the visibility of FAQ rich results in August 2023, limiting them primarily to authoritative government and health websites as part of its efforts to create a cleaner and more consistent search experience.
What is changing?
The retirement of FAQ rich results will happen in three stages:
- 7 May 2026: FAQ rich results stopped appearing in Google Search.
- June 2026: Search Console reporting and Rich Results Test support are being removed.
- August 2026: Search Console API support for FAQ rich result data will end.
Google has not published a separate blog post explaining the reasons for the final removal. However, the company previously said its changes to rich result features were intended to simplify search results and reduce visual clutter.
What does this mean for website owners?
The removal means websites can no longer rely on FAQ schema to generate expandable FAQ listings in Google Search.
Website owners may keep FAQ structured data on their pages if it accurately describes the content, but it will no longer produce the FAQ rich result treatment in Google’s search results.
The change also signals Google’s continued shift toward AI-powered search experiences and a smaller set of supported rich result features.
For publishers and SEO professionals, the focus is increasingly moving away from search-result enhancements and toward creating original, authoritative content that can perform across traditional search, AI Overviews and other emerging search experiences.
What happens next remains unclear, but the retirement of FAQ rich results closes one of the most widely used chapters in structured data optimisation and further reshapes how websites compete for visibility in Google Search.
